Structural damage is the part of an auto body repair nobody sees and everybody depends on. Frame work at our Huntington shop is measured against factory specification rather than judged by eye.

Measurement first

The vehicle goes on the bench, gets anchored, and reference points across the underbody are compared to the manufacturer's published dimensions. What comes back is a set of numbers at every control point, not an impression.

This matters because vehicles hide structural damage well. A car that drives acceptably down Route 110 and closes all its doors can still be sitting outside tolerance in a way that changes how it manages a second impact.

Bringing it back

Where the metal permits it, controlled pulls are applied and the readings taken again between each one, until the structure falls back inside specification.

Where the manufacturer designates a component replace-only, it gets replaced. High strength and boron steel are heat treated to deform in a designed pattern, and heating them to reshape quietly removes that engineering. The part looks correct afterward and no longer behaves correctly.

Alignment afterward

Wheel alignment set before structural correction will drift straight back out. The order matters: measure and correct the structure, then replace whatever suspension components were damaged, then align. Doing it the other way round produces numbers that look fine on paper and do not hold.

What to watch for

A steering wheel that sits off center on a straight road. Tire wear that showed up after a collision. Gaps that no longer match from one side to the other. Anything where an airbag deployed.
